Clinton D. Powell

RenaZance

Co-founders of  the Spitfire Poetry Group in 2000. Though called the Spitfire Poetry Group, Powell said the organization’s goal was to help ignite passion for the creative arts in general and to inspire at-risk youth and others to employ creativity as tools of empowerment and healing in their lives. “Singing, dancing, art-- all of that is poetry to us.” With that in mind, Clinton joined Spitfire with two other local art groups G.S. Song Works (Originally Eastside Players) and Abeni Cultural Arts Performing Arts Studio to create the Performing Arts Collective of Savannah in 2010. The production of "Black Nativity" was Clinton's last play. Clinton passed away in 2011. Although he is gone, his legacy remains here in Savannah, and RenaZance continues the expansion of the Spitfire purpose through his own talents as a poet, painter and photographer. His creativeness is a true testament to the what Spitfire is really all about.
